چکیده
Drought is one of the major environmental stresses affecting crop productivity worldwide. Climate change expected to result in a rise number and intensity drought events coming decades, so climate-resilient crops that can withstand this stress are high demand. There few genotypes cocoa where it tolerate water deficit conditions. The objective current investigation was evaluate effect on photosynthetic physiological parameters six (Theobroma cacao L.) with two irrigation regimes (100% field capacity 40% capacity) under greenhouse conditions at Cocoa Research Station, Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur. gas exchange such as relative content, membrane stability index, chlorophyll content were evaluated. resulted reduced rate, stability. All revealed significant differences for most regimes. Among genotypes, P.IV 19.9, which classified highly tolerant genotype, recorded better results all studied 40 per cent FC. findings study support classification these tolerant, susceptible. These may be used promising indicators screen tolerance cocoa. have role imparting Furthermore, selected drought-tolerant future improvement programmes

Polyphenols have gained much interest recently due to its antioxidant capacity and possible benefits to human health such as anti-carcinogenic, anti-atherogenic, anti-ulcer, antithrombotic, anti-inflammatory, immune modulating, anti-microbial, vasodilatory and analgesic effects. Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is a rich source of polyphenols and reported having high antioxidant activity than teas an...
متن کاملMolecular, Physiological and Biochemical Responses of Theobroma cacao L. Genotypes to Soil Water Deficit
Six months-old seminal plants of 36 cacao genotypes grown under greenhouse conditions were subjected to two soil water regimes (control and drought) to assess, the effects of water deficit on growth, chemical composition and oxidative stress. In the control, soil moisture was maintained near field capacity with leaf water potentials (ΨWL) ranging from -0.1 to -0.5 MPa. In the drought treatment,...
متن کاملMolecular, physiological and morphological analysis of waterlogging tolerance in clonal genotypes of Theobroma cacao L.
In soil, anoxia conditions generated by waterlogging induce changes in genetic, morphological and physiological processes, altering the growth and development of plants. Mass propagation of cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) plantlets (clones) is affected by waterlogging caused by heavy rains and irrigation methods used to induce rooting. An experiment was undertaken to assess the effects of a 45-day f...

متن کاملAnalysis of expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from cocoa (Theobroma cacao L) upon infection with Phytophthora megakarya
Phytophthora megakarya, the causative agent of cacao black pod disease in West African countries causes an extensive loss of yield. In this study we have analyzed 4 libraries of ESTs derived from Phytophthora megakarya infected cocoa leaf and pod tissues. Totally 6379 redundant sequences were retrieved from ESTtik database and EST processing was performed using seqclean tool. Clustering and ass...
